Inscribed lower right twice with original inscription painted over, yet still visible: “Rockwell Kent, Alaska, 1919.” Second, and last signature: “Rockwell Kent.” The second signature signifies that the artist reworked the painting, –perhaps adding the whales and touching up the surface–when he was preparing the painting for sale to Earl Gibson.
The alternate title, Killer Whales in Resurrection Bay, reflects this paintings association with the later work by the same title (AK1-20).
