Notes:
Ernest Gruening (1887-1974) served as Territorial Governor of Alaska from
1939 to 1953 and was elected Senator after Alaska statehood was gained in 1959.
The painting was commissioned by Gruening for his office in Washington, DC. The title Resurrection Bay from Fox Island appears in Kent’s 1 December 1966
receipt of sale to Senator Gruening. An undated slide of the painting [from the archives of Scott R Ferris] is simply titled Resurrection Bay, by the artist.
