The title “Frozen Fall, Alaska,” derives from a list the artist produced in preparation for the 1966 exhibits at Harbor Gallery and Larcada Gallery. “Frozen Falls, Alaska,”appears on a typed label–probably artist generated, as a similar label format appears on other Kent paintings–on the verso.
Evidence of underpainting shows that this painting, like the other frozen waterfall compositions, –AK1-15 and AK1-17–was heavily reworked–circa 1952–over an earlier composition. Unlike the other two paintings the earlier title of this work is currently unidentified.
