Notes:
“The Cabin, Fox Island” is the title Kent wrote on his 35 mm slide of this painting, before he reworked it one last time. The title “Wilderness” appears in the 1997 Christie’s catalogue. “Rough Water” is a title that appears on a Carnegie Institute label on the verso. The title “Rough Water” appears as #13 in the 1925 Art Alliance (Kent) exhibition catalogue.

The mountains in the back right distance of this painting are peaked and bright in color, unlike the curved, dimmer colored, ranges that appear in an earlier photograph. This latter description applies to the mountains depicted in Cabin, Fox Island (AK1-9a). The reworking of this painting may have occurred during the 1950s, or around the time the Levins’ acquired the work, circa 1965.
